2015 LAYBACK WINTER CLASSIC!
Well guys, our Winter Classic, all round, was a very successful event I thought, we had some of the best surf conditions for a local I can probably remember, certainly in many recent years at least, with 3ft clean waves from the first heat to the last final of the day.
A big thank you to many people,

starting with all the guys who were there at 5.45am to help get set up, great work guys, made the 7.00am start time very comfortable, with 3 tents set up also.

One guy you really have to admire for his commitment to the club is Andrew Farrow, Andrew was there 5.45am with his broken bone in his leg still mending, on his walking stick doing whatever he could to help set up, thank you indeed Andrew for putting a wonderful effort in mate!
The check in was manned by John Young & George, as they do most years, our head judge was Hendo, who always does a wonderful job in that role, watching every score put down all day, and that guarantees absolutely a fair judging panel all day, great work mate, it is the number one thing when organising a comp having a real quality head judge such as yourself!
Our tallying was carried out by Steve Pennington, very kind of Steve to do that for us, a real quiet achiever, someone we all respect very much.
The majority of trophies were donated by Andrew Farago, 37 in total, not a bad effort by anyone’s standards, very generous indeed.
The PA, was run all day by Andrew Wilson who does a great job for us also, thank you Andrew it is greatly appreciated.
Our food tent was manned by Ian Olney, Kellie, my daughter in law Jules, and others in various times during the day, Georgia Henderson was there from start to finish and must have made hundreds of cups of coffee during that time, thank you Georgia for spending so much time there for us, the coffee was supplied by Tyse generously as always!
Donny supplied his jars of honey for each finalist great work mate, and cooked mince and cakes for us, thank you Donny you always look after us so well!
The Barby was ably cooked by Benny he started at 7.00am and finished at 3.30pm not a bad stint on the barby by anyones standards, thank you so much Benny. Thank you to Mark and Dale who helped out with organising of the food and picking up of competitors prizes etc. and did a enormous amount of work towards the classic, as did Mal Robbo who was away on holidays but did a fabulous job chasing up sponsors for us, a lot of time put into that task, thank you also Mal.
There were guys who stayed all day helping out, who were not even surfing, that really shows strong commitment to the club.
At the presentation I highlighted the wonderful efforts and commitment the committee had put into making the Classic such a success, and how valuable all our loyal sponsors’ have been for many years, and to appreciate newer sponsors also, hopefully they all choose to remain sponsors for many years to come, and see value for their business in supporting the Layback Club, and the Classic!
There were many good performances during the day with plenty of quality surfers both local and from other areas, the two stand out surfers for me were Marlin from Newcastle, and our own Nick Farago, a real step up in standards with quality surfing at the highest levels, well done to both you guys!
Kind regards,
Bill.
