The Mountain to the Sea by Syd Long

  • by

Daybreak at Bellambi, and the breeze blows strong and free.
The first pale rays of sunlight glimmer through the trees.
Let us thank our maker, as we gaze upon the scene,
For the joy of living, t’ween the mountain and the sea!

Above the shining roof-tops, raise your eyes and look away
At the mountain, more majestic in the light of new-born day.
Climb around the sand dunes – see the winding lake below,
Where children fish for mullet, with bottle, string and dough.

See fishermen along the shore a-searching for their bait,
While out across the ocean, patient ships at anchor wait.
Board riders on the foaming waves – each and all agree
It’s grand to live your days between mountain and the sea.
